Truly Great High School Football Novel

A truly great story unfolds in the pages of Joe Torosian’s first novel. With high school football at its core, the story of Dale Andrade shows how a young man grows in all aspects of his life thanks to being a part of a team and a football community. As someone who grew up and played football in the San Gabriel Valley area of California that Torosian is talking about… it is almost scary how real the situations, thoughts, and moments play out as you turn the pages. I’ve read the book twice now and I can say the second time only helped to hone my perspective on how great of a job Torosian did in capturing the tangent dreams of a high school football player and all of the workings of a high school football program. Any high school football player, past and present, or anyone who has spent time in the bubble that is high school athletics should read this book.

Legends are for real

The short novel name can be changed to any suburban high school football school in the country with tradition. Torosian is able to allow the reader to immerse themselves (especially former players) onto the football field in a big game. Change the names of the “Company of Ages” at Temple City and just insert a traditional school, you can see why Torosian is able to hold a reader’s attention for the entirety of the book.

The fact that Joe Torosian is able to take his experience of being a high school sports reporter for 21-years makes these books worth a read. It allows many of us to relive our Friday nights and leading up to a big game.

The book is an excellent follow-up to the writer’s first novel “Tangent Dreams” which took you into the mindset of a High School athlete that knows his “glory days” will occur on Friday nights.

Great short story.

I was a Special Education teacher for more than twenty years. I used to wonder what thoughts and ideas were going on inside my students. Pete and Gabriel. It put joy in my heart, the relationship of the two. Read it and believe!
