Welcome to our first installment of “The Price is Right.” We’ll discuss MLB players who are due for a big contract and decide whether their current team should sign them for big money, sign them at a bargain, or let them walk away.

Clayton Kershaw
Now that Kershaw is a World Series champion, he has done it all. Cooperstown awaits. However, Kershaw is no longer Batman, he’s Robin. Kershaw is an old 33. He’s coming into his 14th MLB season, and he’s not a stranger to the DL. I would like to see a 3-year deal with big annual payouts. I would hate to see Kershaw in another uniform, but this is a business. Both sides gotta give a little on this one, but I expect the Dodgers to find the angles to stiff Kersh.

Francisco Lindor
Lindor is all that and a bag of chips. The man can do it all and is a fan favorite. He is going to bring in talent and generate revenue. He will have 300 million reasons to stay with the Mets after the 2021 season. Pay up, Mets!

Corey Seager
Seager is hotter than a bottle rocket in July. After 2020 where he was 2nd Team All MLB, won the MVP in the NLCS and WS, Seager is looking to have a monster year in 2021. Seager appears to be playing the best baseball of his career right now and will be a big part of Los Angeles’ future. He’s as good as any SS in baseball. I expect Seager to be a Dodger por vida! Dodgers, the price is right!

Trevor Story
The only knock on Story is he’s only played in Colorado, so his offensive numbers could be a little inflated. He strikes out a lot but hits a lot of home runs. So far, he has shown he is a force to be reckoned with. If Gleyber Torres does not perform in the Bronx this season, Story will be a Yankee. He walks!

Kenley Jensen
Don’t let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya! The price is wrong! WALK!!!!!!!!

Buster Posey
Posey has not been an All-Star caliber catcher since 2017. Catchers have a hard time staying productive. The Giants will pay the buyout on Posey’s final season ($3M), and they let him walk.

Chris Taylor
Taylor has a simple question to ask himself. Does he want to play every day on a 4th place team or continue to platoon with the Dodgers? He has one problem, Gavin Lux. If Lux shows he can succeed every day in the big leagues, then expect Taylor to walk.

Javier Baez
Is this the year of the shortstop or what? Baez seems to have figured out MLB pitching, and his numbers show it. He’s a magician with the glove, and he’s another young hotshot that will generate money. The Cubs would be downright foolish to let Baez walk. He gets paid, BIG!

Marcus Stroman
Stroman accepted the Mets’ qualifying offer, which means he’s banking on having a big year. I buy it, but can he hold up over the next 5-years? Stroman is fun to watch because, heck, we all love the little guys, but I don’t see him panning out over the next 5-years. The price is wrong, but the Mets will bite.

Max Scherzer
Scherzer can still dominate, but at 36 (almost 37) years old, father time will catch up sooner than later. He still has a few good years in him. Scherzer knows that, and so does the rest of the league. With Strasburg leading the rotation, the Nats still have a puncher’s chance. The price is right on a short-term deal.

Kris Bryant
The vibe I’m getting, the Cubs are not bringing back Bryant. He’s been productive, but I feel like the Cubs would like to spend money in other departments. Bryant would benefit from new life, and there are teams out there willing to take a chance on a guy who has the experience and the numbers to prove he is worth picking up. Cubs let him walk, and someone else picks up the tab.

Cody Bellinger
Bellinger is not up for FA until 2024, and believe me, the Dodgers will not pull the trigger early. There needs to be as much of a sample size on this guy as possible. He’s had great seasons and so-so seasons. His career playoff stats do not help either. Some people, especially the ladies, will say I’m nuts and that he’s a proven stud. In my opinion, the jury is still out. Scott Boras and Bellinger are going to want the big payday no matter what. If he continues to be up and down the next 3-seasons, expect the Dodgers to let him walk!
