Kavorka!

“Don’t hit me with them negative waves so early in the morning.”—Oddball

Kick it!

Does Russell Wilson make the Cowboys contenders in the NFC if a deal can be engineered between Seattle and Dallas?

(Talking NFC, not NFC East. Me and the dudes I tag in this column would be contenders in the NFC East. The 1976 Buccaneers would be contenders in the NFC East.)

Is Wilson better than Dak Prescott? Dumb question.

Better one…Were the Cowboys struggles because of Prescott? And do those troubles—lousy defense, lousy offensive line—go away if Wilson becomes the teams’ triggerman?

I think they’re 8-8 with Prescott. I think they’re 10-6 with Wilson.

With that said, I’m telling Dak to go to Starbucks and pick up a free umbrella because he’s going to need one in the Emerald City.

Final Add Wilson & Dallas: I think a miracle, and a Wilson play or two, could make the Pokes 11-5…But Cowboys issues run deeper than what is seen on the field. They’ve been treading water for a quarter-century.

Note to Seattle: Make sure you don’t take Ezekiel Elliott as any form of compensation for Wilson. Zeke is done.

I don’t play the stock market or fully understand it–for that matter. Of course, like everyone else, I have retirement accounts tied to it. But I always feel like I grasp it better in the build-up to the NFL Draft.

A player’s stock rises and falls so, so fast.

At the end of January, Alabama quarterback Mac Jones was seen by scouts as a late first-round selection—at best. Many scouts were saying he could fall to the second round. In late February, I’ve seen Jones appear in the 15th slot in the first round (New England) and even in the top ten by some analysts.

It’s amazing, and here’s another.

After winning the national title yawning festival, Alabama receiver Devonta Smith was ready to be declared the fourth person in the trinity. But since then he’s fallen behind LSU’s Ja’Marr Chase (Remember him?). He’s fallen behind Crimson Tide teammate Jaylen Waddle, and one mock draft has Smith going at 15–to New England.

I haven’t seen a stock drop like that since my hair went from brown to gray.

I realize I never talk about the Los Angeles Chargers, but should I? I like the uniforms, I don’t like the owner, and I wish they were still playing in the Murph.

(Now, don’t go Stevie R. on me and say. “It’s called Qualcomm!”—And I’ve got nothing but love for Stevie R. he makes us all better in regards to sports history/trivia.)

Please Don’t Department:
Note to Rams: Please don’t make defensive tackle Michael Brockers a Cap Casualty. A’Shawn Robinson is not the answer. Brockers is unspectacular, but he’s been solid/consistent his entire career, and he works well with Aaron Donald.

A sports depression can grip me when things don’t work out my way. The Rams releasing Brockers would put me in a brief funk. And when I look at the Los Angeles Dodgers’ roster, all I want to do is reach for gallons and gallons of caffeinated beverages.

I’m pro-New York Mets. I’m bullish (How’s that for market lingo?) on this upcoming season, and I’m starting to appreciate the signing of Taijuan Walker…but that Dodgers lineup and staff is nothing but negative waves to my senses…Kind of like the end of an NBA game.

Since the 1973-1974 (my first from start to finish) NBA season, I’ve been hip that the final minute of a game can last longer than an evening with an Amway salesman.

There’s always been timeouts and fouls to stop the clock. But now—78 games into my NBA rebirth—you have timeouts, fouls, and “reviews” on everything.

“Was Frank Vogel brought a large or medium coke?” The refs come to the sideline, put the headsets on, take the headsets off, and then report: “Review confirmed, Frank Vogel was brought a medium soda. It’ll be Laker ball out of bounds.”

Three seconds later, someone has a harsh thought toward LeBron James, and it’s back to the sideline and back to the headsets…

You may think I’m joking…But I’m not.

Final Add Lakers: How do YOU feel about them going forward?

The Dude abides…
