Kick it!
If you don’t know who Don Carfino is…Then get off of my USC Final Four bandwagon…
(“Peace, Love, Dope! Now get the heck out!”)
You notice how everyone is “suddenly” wearing UCLA and USC shirts and hats these days? Unbelievable.
Before Riley Saxon wrote his column, I liked USC over Gonzaga.
I think Michigan closes the door on UCLA.
USC will play Baylor next Monday night. Prediction pending—because ABC said something about Tim Floyd coaching the Trojans.
I’ll have to check it out. Maybe Sam Clancy’s got some eligibility left.
I wonder how Arkansas feels about the NCAA’s foul-out rule…Is it possible, maybe, Razorback Nation thinks this archaic rule needs to be changed about now?
The interesting thing about the NCAA Tournament is that not only seconds but also tenths of seconds can make the difference between winning and losing. So why allow an opponent to roll the ball up the court (sometimes across halfcourt) to prevent the clock from starting?
I don’t get it. We’re talking tenths of seconds making a difference. Send a chaser out there and make the offense pick up the ball. Jubilee Dunbar!
I was forced to watch Iowa-UConn on Saturday in the Women’s NCAA Tourney. I didn’t mind the basketball, but whoever is marketing the ladies’ game is stealing money.
Nobody turns on a women’s game to see exceptional talent. They turn it on for the game and how it’s played at that level. All I heard and the graphics I saw were about these great stars facing off.
I’m prepared to be canceled for this…but most of these girls would struggle to stay on the court at a decent high school playing against boys.
Don’t sell me the talent. Sell me the game, and I might have some interest.
…And apparently, I’m in the demographic (male) that watches women’s basketball. I was stunned to learn that more men watch women play basketball than ladies do. The gals probably like talent too.
I think the men enjoy the potential of seeing basketball played correctly. If they wanted athleticism, they’d only watch the guys.
New Rule Suggestion: This comes from a former coach who continually watched his teams get beat under the glass.
If the offensive team pulls down three consecutive rebounds on the same possession, they should be awarded a point—or the defensive deducted a point—for the effort.
Offensive rebounding is Heaven and Hell. If your team is crashing the offensive boards, it is pure joy. If your team is constantly giving up offensive boards, it can make you toss your groceries, throw a chair, or sprout an ulcer.
Real quick, some NFL…
The NFC West this off-season is like a Cold War. I am eagerly anticipating the buttons being pushed this September,
If you ever hear or read another story about the NFL Players Association arguing safety concerns…Just remember it was the NFLPA that signed off on a 17-game season.
Don’t tell me how dangerous the game is (we know it’s dangerous), and then add another game. Of course, we know it’s about money…But I think if we want our best players to stick around and not facing body-part replacement surgeries in their forties & fifties…16-games should be the max for a human body.
Next time you talk about the greedy owners, make sure to include the greedy players.
Finally, I don’t know why everyone got all in a buzz about Lindsey Thiry’s ESPN article detailing Rams HC Sean McVay and quarterback Jared Goff’s breakup.
Anybody following the Rams knew McVay had soured on Goff during the season. And if we didn’t know it over the course of the season, we knew it in the first round of the playoffs where Goff was healthy enough to play…but he wasn’t healthy enough to start…?
So everyone is all jazzed about this excellent expose, but it was 4,172-words on stuff we already knew. Mixed into those 4,172-words were 22-quotes from sources.
15-team sources.
7-league sources.
Not names, not anybody on the record, but “team sources” and “league sources.”
What’s that?
I’m not doubting any of it being true. But I could have written that article knowing what I know from observation. And—without knowing anybody in the building—I could have tossed in 22-quotes from unnamed sources—even a few more.
The Dude abides…
